Visit to Dodge City, April 2008
- Offerton Park Parish Council
- Offerton Park Parish Council has agreed to co-ordinate, on behalf of the community, a project to develop closer links between the area and Dodge City in the USA. The historic links between Offerton and Dodge City were first established when William Dodge left Offerton in 1629 and relatives of the Dodge Family went on to found Dodge City. In 2001, representatives from Dodge City returned the favour by visiting Stockport, including parts of Offerton. Dodge City Manager, Ken Strobel said: “I think it would be a valuable experience on learning how the people in the Offerton Parish live and deal with their issues”. Commissioner Jim Sherer added “an increased connection with Stockport would be an excellent idea”. The Parish Council has provided financial support for two delegates make the visit to Dodge City. The Head of Business & Enterprise at Offerton School, Jennifer Faricy, will also be joining the delegation to represent young people in our community. The visit is financially supported by contributions from Continental Airlines, Intercontinental Hotels and Hertz car rentals.
